AI and Children’s Right to Live

Children have the fundamental right to live in safety and dignity, yet emerging technologies are increasingly being used to undermine this right in conflict zones. Artificial intelligence, once seen as a tool for progress, is now enabling unprecedented levels of violence with minimal human oversight. This workshop will explore the use of AI-driven systems, such as Israel’s “Lavender” targeting system, and their devastating impact on children in Gaza and other conflict-affected areas. Together, we will examine the ethical implications, discuss the role of global advocacy, and explore actions to disrupt technological complicity in war.

Why Attend?

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to engage with leading experts, critically examine the role of AI in modern warfare, and collaborate on actionable solutions to protect vulnerable children’s right to life. Designed as an interactive forum, it will bring together engineers, tech professionals, human rights defenders, and peacebuilders to collectively analyze the ethical implications and explore innovative strategies for advocacy and intervention.

Featured Speaker:

Professor Harry Anastasiou, an expert in international peace and conflict studies, will provide critical insights into how AI-driven technologies are shaping modern warfare and what this means for children’s rights and global peace efforts.

Key Questions to Reflect On:

  1. What responsibilities do we hold when technology enables mass violence against children?
  2. How can we hold governments and institutions accountable for the use of AI in conflict?
  3. What actions can we take to advocate for children’s right to live?

What to Expect:

  1. Expert Presentation: A thought-provoking talk by Professor Anastasiou on the intersection of AI, warfare, and ethics.
  2. Breakout Sessions: Collaborative discussions on advocacy and policy interventions.
  3. Case Study: An analysis of AI’s use in Gaza and its consequences.
  4. Call to Action: Concrete steps to support children’s right to live and demand accountability.
