The George Washington University Okinawa Collection and Okinawa Prefecture DC Office are organizing a Zoom webinar on the U.S. military base issue in Okinawa on Thursday, March 28 at 7 pm (EST), featuring Dr. Shino Hateruma of Seikei University, Japan and Dr. MikeĀ  Mochizuki of the George Washington University. Moderated by Dr. Steve Rabson, Professor Emeritus of Brown University, they will discuss evolving Okinawan views regarding the U.S. military presence in Okinawa, the possible role and vulnerability of U.S. bases during a Taiwan contingency, and the implications for Okinawa of changing U.S. military doctrine and posture in this era of intensifying U.S.-China strategic competition.
