Webinar: Missile Offense: Raytheon and the Cost of Missile Defense

Technologies that defend against enemy missiles (nuclear ICBMs, etc.) have had a fraught history throughout the Cold War period and up until the present day. While many may view offensive weapons as belligerent and immoral, ballistic missile defense (BMD) systems are often viewed as protective and, even, moral. This webinar will address misconceptions about BMD and seek to show why such systems can be considered belligerent in their own right. This webinar will address the history of BMD; its role in nuclear strategy; its cost and effectiveness; and its role in escalating tensions in Ukraine and in outer space. Furthermore, the role of defense contractors, like Raytheon, in developing these technologies will be discussed.
