A conversation with Garett Reppenhagen
Garett is the son of a Vietnam veteran and grandson of two World War II veterans. He served in the Army as a sniper and was deployed to Kosovo in 2002 on a peacekeeping mission. He served a combat tour in Iraq in 2004, which was involuntarily extended for 10 months. He was honorably discharged in 2005.
Garett is featured in the film, “What I Want You to Know.” This is a powerful movie about 13 combat veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. The movie presents their experiences and feelings about what they were told the mission would be and how it did not match their reality “in country.” It is a powerful message about how we all were lied to about post 9/11 wars.
This movie has an essential message for former combat veterans – many of whom may be having difficulty dealing with their experiences. They are not alone. It is also a message the American public needs to hear that is seldom presented by the mainstream media. The movie is not political or partisan in its message. It simple tells the stories of 13 GWOT combat veterans and their thoughts about their experiences.
