Sidewalk Event: No War Toys!

Date & Time:

December 7, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm EST

Cost:

Free

The Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice has long pursued issues that transcend partisan politics, and that will surely outlast the vagaries of electoral results.

One such issue is the cultural pipeline that leads from violent play at home in kids’ running shoes to the real thing in boots on the ground.  So this season, as every year, CCPJ will be urging neighbors to discourage bad habits in the young by avoiding war toys as seasonal gifts.  Look for our message in December at the corner of Hydraulic Road and the Rte 250 bypass, and take heart!

You can also join us in person on Saturday, December 7th, from 11:00 until 1:00 on the public sidewalk outside Walmart, along Rte 29 north of Charlottesville.  We’ve got a good collection of placards to show passers-by what we think.  But why not carry, or wear, a sign of your own making?  It’s all about creative play, and that’s thankfully an activity that spans the generations.

DID YOU HEAR US?  NO WAR TOYS!

Whether or not you can join our cohort outside Walmart on that first December Saturday, you can join us on the airwaves next month by listening for the advertising spots CCPJ has once again arranged with local radio stations.  Our announcements will be aired in the weeks ahead on the following channels:

3WV (rock station)
Z95.1 (adult contemporary music)
WINA (news)
Cville Country (country music)
The Corner (music)
Fox Sports (24 hour sports)
97.9 WREN (oldies)
101 JAMZ WVAI (hip-hop and RnB)
92.3 XRK (rock hits)

There’s a spectrum that should find most tastes, and give a variety of audiences something to think about.  Tune in!
