March and Rally to End the Blockade of Cuba

A coalition of local organizations will hold a March and Rally as part of a national weekend of actions, in which over 50 cities are anticipated to participate, standing in solidarity with the people of Cuba and demanding the United States end its blockade of the country which causes extreme suffering to the people of Cuba.

For over 60 years US government policy has used draconian economic measures to drive the Cuban people into misery and starvation, to make them rise up against their own government. This economic blockade hasn’t succeeded but it has done immense damage. The Trump administration, in its final days, added Cuba to the tiny list of nations deemed by the US State Department to be State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT). The Biden administration has continued that designation.

Due to the United States’ unilateral blockade of Cuba, Cuba is unable to import essential goods, including food and medicine. During the COVID-19 pandemic the U.S. blockade prevented Cuba from purchasing oxygen and other life-saving medical supplies. The blockade is condemned by all people throughout the world and Cubans on both sides of the political spectrum as inhuman. Last year marked the 30th year in a row in which the UN voted 185 to 2 to end the blockade with only the US and Israel voting in favor. We call for the immediate end of the blockade, the lifting of sanctions, and for Cuba to be removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism!
