Music, poetry and speeches to remember the victims of the atomic bombs and to envision a peaceful world.
As World War two was ending in 1945, the United States dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6th and 9th August.
An estimated 340,000 people died as a result, with 100,000s more suffering from severe burns, cancers, and fertility problems.
Today 12,000 nuclear weapons still threaten our survival. Nuclear rhetoric around the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East shows us how these weapons can make a dangerous situation even riskier. The possibility of nuclear war is the greatest for many decades.
Britain is now the third biggest spender on nuclear weapons in the world – overtaking Russia. It wants to buy nuclear-capable F-35 fighter jets and is increasing its existing nuclear arsenal to 260 warheads each of which has eight times the power of the Hiroshima bomb.
We oppose spending £ billions on weapons of mass destruction when investment is urgently needed for our welfare system. We demand the government prioritises People not Nukes and Welfare not Warfare!
