In 2016, a press conference was suddenly called by Okinawa Pref. government, informing that PFOS was detected in the water from the Chatan Water Purification Plant (CWPP) supplies 450,000 residents or one-third of the prefecture’s population.
It is said that it comes from U.S. military facilities.
The use of the two PFAS is prohibited by international treaties as a substance harmful to the human body.
