I Am Gitmo that chronicles torture in Guantanamo
premieres Friday April 26 in New York (22 E 12th St). It runs for 5 days, then goes to LA. Q&A with director and Guantanamo attorneys afterwards. They’re promoting the Guantanamo Survivors Fund! Tell your friends and share on social media. Not in NY? Arrange a showing in your town. Great chance to enlighten new people, especially those born after 9/11.
The award-winning narrative feature, written/directed by Philippe Diaz (‘The End of Poverty?’) tells the story of a Guantanamo detainee, from his perspective, truthful to the illegality of his arrest, and the torture he experienced. Unlike traditional Hollywood movies, that film is seen through the eyes of the Middle Eastern man and doesn’t have a Western hero to save the day.
Abu Ghraib Trial Finally Happening
The Center for Constitutional Rights is in Federal court suing CACI, the contractor that oversaw torture in Abu Ghraib. Closing arguments today, so there may be a verdict soon.
